summer time. i've been neglecting my substack... but i'm back

a lot has happened since april, when i last sent one of these into thousands of adoring fans’ inboxes

tour is in the past, tour is in the future

in may i played a few beautiful solo east coast shows, opening for julia jacklin and playing my own gigs. playing solo is how squirrel flower began, the first 4 years of squirrel flower were pretty much completely solo, so returning to that always feels full circle and a chance to breathe into my older, more minimalist songs.

in 4 days i begin a solo tour opening for Pedro the Lion across the usa. my best friend phoebe is coming with me to help drive, sell merch, and hang before she moves to paris in august. we’re gonna live out our thelma + louise fantasies+ go camping in moab, white river national forest in CO and the badlands along the way. wish us luck..

then in july i bring the band over to europe and uk for fests and headlining shows. it’s hard to think about leaving chicago summer behind for a month, but nothing is better than touring, especially in the summer time, especially in europe. !!!!! !!

-my kexp session came out

+ check out the interview with cheryl waters at the end. i feel blessed to have this video that immortalizes this specific lineup of musicians, this specific tour, where it felt like a lotta things shifted in my life. still riding the high of it.

-i released a live cover of ‘cortez the killer’ w a supergroup of friends

performed in austin texas during my week of unofficial sxsw shows. featuring dimitri giannopolous (horse jumper of love), alexalone, greg freeman, travis harrington (truth club), kai wilde (teethe), and michael who plays bass in the squirrel flower live band.

if you didn’t know, sxsw is sponsored by the us army and platforms defense contractors like RTX who make the weapons that are bombing schools and murdering children in gaza. i did this cover as protest against that, in solidarity with the palestinian people.

i believe in a free palestine, and will continue to collect donations for esims at every single show i play.
